Autotech HPFP log safety

Hi, Currently running stage 2+ on my k03 mk5 gti. Car feels great, feels around 270-280bhp now  :jumping:  but I am a little worried about the new Autotech HPFP. I have heard a few horror stories and would just like some advice on the reliability of the car now. Yesterday I thought I could smell petrol coming from the oil so I logged the car and everything seemed fine. Block 31 lambda was on 0.8 (not too rich, not too lean) at WOT and the fuel rail pressure seemed to be bang on.
 
So if something was wrong with the HPFP would these two blocks be way out?? Sorry if it seems I am begin overly cautions.

P.S - how are others running stage 2+ finding the reliability of the car?

ID imagine it would run Lean if there was a problem with it.

Im not too concerned on the reliability the Autotech HPFP.

There are quite of few people with high powered GTI's running these with no problems. Im guessing aslong as its fitted correctly then you wont have any problems.

Only thing is I would want to check my cam follower more often

The problem with the internals is not just the loss of pressure, but the mixing of fuel in with the oil. It's normal for oil to smell of combustion, but it should not smell of neat fuel and the engine oil should not be rising (on the dipstick). Seem to remember it being a seal that fails, no idea on the cause but it's not something that will be identified through logging of data. The stories were enough for me to get a LOBA unit for peace of mind.

I've been Stage 2+ with WMI for the last 8-9 months so far and it's great

Mine is currently 2+

Includes:
APR HPFP
Single mass flywheel conversion
Stage 3 clutch
Whiteline anti-lift

All above to help get the fuel through, power down on the road, and to cope with the torque  :laugh:

Ok thanks Dan, so is the best way to keep an eye on the dipstick level? I know it is normal to smell fuel in the oil but I am not sure what to smell for in terms of strength of smell if you know what I mean.
