Unicorn Stage 2 Mk7 R.
« on: April 07, 2016, 11:57:04 pm »
Hey guys.

Thought I'd put a little post up about my Mk7, used to have quite a few quick Edition 30's and the logical step was to go to a Mk7 R. Had it just over 12 months now and in that time she's obviously been played with.

So the mods are..

3" Decat downpipe
VWR R600 intake
Turbo Techics intake hose
GFB DV+
Unicorn Developments engine and DSG map

All of this equates too...

383bhp 430lb/ft on a conservative dyno, anyone who's seen Ricks rollers know they ain't easy to pull the power.

And more importantly, the times..

At Santa pod a few weeks ago I managed to do an 11.51 @ 119.95mph. That was running a bit of ethanol as an additive and no back seats.

I've also done plenty of testing on the road using the Vbox.

My current quickest times are:

0-60mph (1ft roll out) - 3.23
0-60mph (No 1ft roll out) - 3.59

0-100mph (1ft roll out) - 7.69
0-100mph (No 1ft roll out) - 8.05

60-100mph - 4.44
100-200kmh - 8.76

So I'd like to think she goes well. I think it's currently the fastest stock turbo'd car in the world on street tyres on the quarter mile, a couple of Peurto Rican guys have went quicker by a touch but they were running drag tyres.

Every time I drive the car I've got a massive grin on my face, I cannot get over how fast a 2 litre Golf hatchback can be with such minimal mods, off the line on launch control its silly but even into speeds the thing just charges and carries on. These newer engines have so much more flow compared to the older TFSI engines so it's so punchy and seems to go from nothing. Hats off to Rick @ Unicorn for an awesome map too.

I am a proper massive fan of Mk5's, especially Edition 30's, but these newer cars are 10 years ahead when it comes to technology and things have moved along since the K04 TFSI. Saying that, I'm sure a TTE420 would easy see me off. Haha.

A little golf with 380 bhp just sounds so much fun

You just have to love the tunability of these things and the satisfaction it must give as you keep a super car honest !!!

Enjoy

Quite astonishing numbers. 190hp per litre is quite something.

How's the drivability of the car? What other mods have you got planned?

As a comparison, my mate in his stock Golf R at Santa Pod put up a 13.1 as his quickest down the 1/4 mile.
