We are currently in Kona on the Big Island, Hawai'i and have been for nearly a week. The weather is DAMN hot and humid to the point where it is nearly impossible to do anything without sweating profusely. I tried the other morning to get for a run but it was 30c and 90% humidity at 7am so got coffee instead.
The weather tends to be hot and sunny with clear blue sky until late afternoon when the rain starts bringing the flash floods. The rain at coast level only lasts for 30 minutes or so but further up the island and on the topical side as much as 2-3cm or rain can fall in just over an hour. When the floods hit us, if you are caught in one it can only be described as terrifying and nearly a brown trouser moment for sure.
To add to the fun we are now on Tsunami alert and have been advised to pack emergency bags should we need to leave when the Tsunami is predicted to hit the south of the island at 2pm GMT (3am HST). So no drinking for me this evening. It doesn't help they have just tested the warning sirens - which incidentally the sound is absolutely harrowing!
On a plus note my rental is 4motion DSG Tiguan.
