Supercar Experience Day
« on: September 16, 2015, 09:17:04 pm »
Had a pretty cool day out on Anglesey Race Track in a Ferrari 430, Lambo Gallardo and Nissan GTR the other day.  My mate chose the Audi R8, GTR and Aston Martin Vantage.
The weather was the best it could be really, nice and sunny, dry track, cool air and to top it off the RAF Tornado's were out practising too.

You don't get a lot of time in the cars, we only had 3 laps of each motor, but it's enough to open them up a bit.

For me the best sounding was the V10 in the Gallardo... blipping that thing down through the gears from 1**MPH, hard on the brakes into sweeping corners was entoxicating, I don't think I'd tire of that noise (ever).  But tbh, the engine was the only thing I really liked about it; it's just too small inside (and I'm not tall, 5'11) it had offset pedals, the paddle levers are too small and it felt a bit heavy.

The 430 was epic, nimble compared to the Gallardo, better interior, a lot more room inside and felt a bit more special.  I could corner better in the 430 than the Gallardo which was a tad vague, it was a fantasticly dry and sunny day though.

The GTR was awesome, the way it corners is insane, I feel I could run rings around the other two cars on the twisties. I personally love the look too, and cheap as chips compared to the others.  My mate and I were on track at the same time, me in the GTR and him in the Aston... both grinning like kids, the GTR was much quicker though we felt.

The V8 R8 kept cooking its rear brakes, noticebaly smoking after every few laps, it's a nicely finished motor though... I think the V10 version would be sublime.

The Aston although lovely to look at, felt a bit shy of power compared to the GTR / 430 and Gallardo.

So to round up, you've got to give it a go, but don't pay big money for it,  even at the hugely reduced rate we got it for, it is still expensive for the 'in car' time you have.
And the worst thing about it is... you want MORE, especially the V10.... how much are those R8 V10's.... ... :happy2:

Absolutely mate... As soon as you're getting used to the car and track they say to come in... Booo.
The second and third cars get more exciting though as there are a lot of blind corners... The instructor made ma laugh as he was telling me to brake well before the braking signs, think I was leaving my boot in there a bit too long, I ignored it for the most part, not to be an arse but I'm going to get the most of these three laps thanks, lol.

@pt82 yes mate I've seen those too, in fact as soon as I got back from the track day I was looking at more and that came up... But its about 700 odd quid, think I'd prefer to track the Golf at Anglesey ten times for that.

Its a good experience but tbh, I wasn't left thinking the Golf was poor, in fact a well setup Eddy with map and handling mods would be great fun there I think.  And its all about the fun for me, the exotics had a lot of power but it felt too much on anything but the straights... Probably because I'm not used to it.
