Engine Management Light
« on: September 14, 2015, 10:54:57 pm »
So on driving to Brands Hatch yesterday from Nottingham my Engine Management Light came on.

The car felt fine and was just the light so no display and warning on the display.

Looking like I will have to take it to the garage but did have no choice but to drive it back to Nottingham today and apart from the light it was fine and no other warnings or issues.

So was wondering would VCDS show anything up?

Also I topped up with Engine Oil the day before I drove down so wondering if this could have caused an issue as seems a bit of a coincidence?

So have done a scan nad quite a few errors but 2 for the Engine which I presume is causing the EML to come on. Gong to check on Rosstech but not got any ideas about these faults or the others that seem to have cropped up. I have cleared all DTC's and re-ran and they all came back. And I have a standard GTI exhaust with nothing modified on it

So for the important engine ones as not concentrating on the others for now it suggests the below. Anyone be able to guide me as to what, where and how I would check these things as have not got a clue really what to check

Not sure if it has anything to do with it but on inspecting my Engine bay I noticed the below connections looking dodgy. However on the pic where they are marked out this was a pic taken a few weeks ago and no errors then so not sure if connected.

So after a bit of searching I found that the pic I have stuck up with the damaged connection on the right of engine is the N205 Valve if not mistaken.

So my car did or does not have any symptoms that I can tell since the the EML light came on so it is maybe a case this connection is the issue with the damage. If so can I run the car until I get it fixed or will this start causing major issues?

Yep looks like the N205 is to blame for the first one, that's second circled is just conduit for the coil pack harness.

Have you followed the Ross-tech and tried a basic setting?

Strange for that type of damage to just happen - have you had the vehicle in for repair work, timing chain perhaps?

That connector looks nasty. But could it cause all those errors?

Cheers, any idea on how much a replacement valve would cost and is it easy to fit.

I am going to try the basic settings now and see what it says

The only thing I can think is it may have been my fault as I cut my engine cover to fit my new CAI and I am wondering if somehow when I fitted back it cut against it but not sure.

I'm no expert be any means  thing is the two metal pins are still intact but not sure how secure the connect will be to hold in place

I'm no expert be any means  thing is the two metal pins are still intact but not sure how secure the connect will be to hold in place

So reconnected the N205 valve as best I could but the pins still in contact but will need a new valve unless I can work my magic with some glue as it is the plastic that's damaged but pins are fine

Also ran the basic settings but it said wait until field 4 says "ADP. O.K" however mine stayed at saying "TXT 000 002".

However on doing both the above, cleaning codes and scanning the car again the Engine faults were gone and EML not there anymore

So seems to have sorted it until I can replace the N205 Valve. Is this valve important as in I probably wont be able to replace for a couple of weeks and if connection does totally go will it cause any problems?

Now I just got to look into the other less serious problems

Well at least your making some progress.

The n205 is easy to change, just two torx screw holding it in. Part number for it is 06f 109 257 c

It's changes the cam shaft timing to aid starting and many others issues eg EGR but short term it will be ok to run with it disconnected.

Nice one,

At the moment the connection is staying as EML light off however I imagine with the car driving and go over bumps etc it may come loose. Seems they are quite costly to replace and the connectors are fine but the plastic covering is damaged. So I reckon I could easily fix this as a temp measure for now
