Milltek interchangable
« on: September 24, 2015, 03:38:59 pm »
Hi,

I have a turbo back resonated Milltek system inc high-flow cat and downpipe.

My question is can non-resonated parts be put in there place i.e backbox swap?

I ask as think mine is a wee bit quiet (was on the car when I bought it).

Thanks in advance

Yes you can.

I went to my local exhaust shop and got the resonator box cut out and they welded a pipe as a replacement.

think it cost me 60quid

I'm wondering what the most restricted/resonated part of the system is > the backbox is huge  :scared:

As the car has been mapped to stage 2+ with the exhaust and other mods I wonder if it would do it any harm or potentially lose power etc?

The mid pipes with the silencers can be replaced for the other version on Milltek exhausts, I asked AMD Tuning when they fitted mine in case I wanted to swap for the quieter system. You shouldn't see much difference over a few BHP if that. The silencer works by creating a space that adsorbs the energy emitted at certain frequencies which would normally be turned into sound energy (don't quote me, think that's it on a real basic level).

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

The difference in the resonated exhaust is the centre box. The non resonated version just comes with a pipe, and the two are interchangable and can be bought separately.
The back boxes are overkill though, I ended up have a back box delete pipe made, but if you do that, you'll definitely need the centre section as it is very loud without!!
Other option is to have a smaller back box made, but for the price paid for the milltek, you may as well have had a custom system made, like BCS for example.
