TROW81 ED30 Plastidip
« on: September 20, 2015, 09:16:59 am »
Hi guys

So decided I was getting bored with the front end so decided to do the lower splitter lip in gloss black. I have a friend who owns his own business, paint/scratch repair etc who offered to spray for mates rates, but after some advice and reading @MateyGuv thread I opted to do it myself using Plastidip. Think this is the better option as I can just peel it off should I want to return to stock at any point.

I didn't want a Matt black and was struggling to find any Plastidip in Gloss black so decided on Hyperlex Black Gloss rubber paint. Was around £14 online for a 450ml can which is more than enough for the job, so last Sunday I got to work. First things first had to make sure the area to be painted was clean which gave me a great excuse for a full wash and detail, which was a nice opportunity to try out the new KleenFreaks detailer I purchased. Once the paintwork was where it needed to be came the not so exciting task of masking up ready for the job at hand. So all masked up and ready to go the point of no return came. Keeping a watchful eye on the weather I got to it. First coat is just a very light spray evenly using clean passing sweeps side to side. Once the initial base coat was given 20 minutes to dry it was just a case of repeating this 3-4 more times with a 20 minute dry time in between. Once the final coat was on and I was happy with the texture/look I had to then wait 5 hours for it to completely dry and set. Bearing in mind it was a cloudy day that was not 5 fun hours constantly checking the weather and looking out the window every 5 minutes praying the hard work would not be undone by rain. S0 a looooooong 7 hours after I first started came the time to carefully and painstakingly remove the masking to reveal the end result. Cautiously using a small Stanley knife to trim and tidy around the edges and making sure not to damage the paintwork underneath I slowly got to work feeling like a kid at Christmas opening my presents. Finally I was done and I was very impressed with the outcome. This is a simple DIY job just time consuming to make sure you get a great finish. I think this sets the front end off very nice and I'm really happy with the end result, just gutted I didn't do it before Edition38. This week I'm going to also do the rear lower valance. Thanks for reading take a look at the pics.

Great job there mate. Did you source the paint online or your local autoparts store?
