I don't really think you need to pay much more than that for a good car with reasonable miles.

£10k is already above the trade in price for these cars, which matters from the point of view that someone is unlikely to get overpaid too much by a dealer.

If a car needs a service, cambelt, a couple of tyres, tidy up inc refurbing a wheel or two, you can easily spend £1k. So it's hard to price to the nearest £1k until you see the car itself.

The one I looked at today was <40k miles and just over £10k, considering a VAG seller you would have thought was reasonable.?
I would happily pay >£10k for an exceptional car that ticked all the boxes!

Check everywhere for rust, it could be anywhere! Ask if the cam follower has been changed, but listen carefully. If the engine sounds a little rough that could be a bad sign...

Check wear on the seat bolster as the leather can wear through easily. And obviously check all your electrics work like heated seats etc.

Service history is an absolute must. Dsg in particular which is every 40k.

Make sure the mechatronics works properly. When stationary take your foot off the brake and let it move off. If there's any sign of it being a jerky movement that could be the mechatronics failing, a common issue.

Oh and I'm also a firm believer in buying private now. Check the cars for sale through this forum in particular. Enthusiasts usually look after them better.

A garage probably won't even know what a cam follower is. Nor will your average Joe
