Replacement Xenon headlight bulbs
« on: September 23, 2015, 08:45:41 pm »
Hi guys,

I need two new bulbs for my Xenon headlights. I rang VW and nearly fell off my chair when they told me the price :) Any advice of any alternative bulbs I can use? What is the standard wattage/colour temp/part numbers I should be looking for?

Thanks mate.

So am I looking for D2S bulbs? Should I avoid all the ebay ~£15ish jobbies?

I am using these for ~10 quids at the moment, before that used xenarcs, from the link in the top, there is a different between these, but it doesnt worth to pay 50-60 pounds more for xenarcs one in my opinion. Secondly, is hard to buy original ones, a lot of fakes in the market.

Yes, D2S bulbs. I'd avoid the cheapo ones personally. I've got the Osrams and can't fault them.

Sorry guys, does anyone know what the genuine vw xenon bulb K value is (e.g. 4300K, 5000K, 6000K etc)?

Do I need to look for the same value?

A xenon bulbs last a lot of time, I think it's worth spending a bit more to have better quality lighting.

I'm still on original bulbs in both my Golfs.

Look into morimoto xenon bulbs, got mine from Trups (EM Tuning) - he's a forum sponsor on audisport and RS246. I went for 6000k, got them in my RS4 and the GTi.

Pics of the golf, and the light output from my RS4 (which also had a clear projector lens).

http://www.emtuning.co.uk/

He doesn't seem to list all his products on the website so I'd contact him and let him know what you're after and he'll price you up. From memory I think I paid about £45 for each pair of xenon bulbs I bought from him.

He also does LEDs and custom modifications (e.g. On my RS4, he split my headlights, painted the internals black, swapped the projector lens for an uprated one, and installed a colour changing "demon eyes" kit, as well as swapping all the bulbs!)
