My GTI
« on: September 24, 2015, 06:42:30 am »
Well here is the 2nd GTI I've owned. I think it's a thing of beauty.

Pictured just after my first attempt at using a DA polisher!!
Work done so far has been
New wing mirror indicator lens
New belt and water pump

I've two new headlights to fit along with two new window switch bezels which are sitting in my garage ATM.

The car really didn't need too much done TBH. Although I'm waiting on VW accepting the front wing replacement request but I'm not holding my breath.

So future work might be.
 stage 1 remap
New 18" monza's
Induction kit
Stereo upgrade.

I'll get more pics up after the next wash and polish and some interior shots.
The car was well kept by the previous owner credit to them. And only 52400 miles when I got her with a decent service history!

Well I'd decided to fit new headlight units today. Holy sh*t, one piece of advice. It will never be as easy and straightforward as its shown on some YouTube tutorials!! But anyway got them fitted in the end

My other piece of advice is where possible try to purchase genuine VW parts. After markets won't guarantee the same fit as I found out!!
I plan to refurbish my original lights and maybe have angel eyes fitted.

Haha, its like watching the video to change the lamps at the front :rolleye: for the passengers side I find it easier to whip the wheel off take the arch liner out and then you can reach through! :signLOL:

Good old ECS tuning on YouTube. Was a few more screws involved to loosen the bumper!!
I'm changing the window switch bezels next. :worried

Just a few photos after a clean today

And a pic of my replacement window switch bezel.

Just the passenger side to replace when I get the courage to take the door panel off! :nervous:\

I just stuck my pry tool in the lower half up against the door and once unclipped a little, pulled it towards the centre of the car (do not pull at an angle)
I didn't need to change the upper half of it as mine was in good nick.
I've still got the upper bit laying around somewhere if you want it for a couple quid?

Thanks for the offer buddy. I just bought both parts in my local VW dealers. Yes the bottom half of the handle is pretty straight forward but the top half which holds the switch is held by 4 screws. 2 visible and 2 which need the panel removed. Cheers again for the offer!!
