Just bought a GTI
« on: September 26, 2015, 05:53:03 pm »
Hi everyone. I bought a gti earlier today in reflex silver my05. The car overall is in good condition given the age, however when I was in my drive and the car was stationary I could hear a noise when full locking the steering wheel. I was trying to park it close to the fence and this happened when my foot was on the brake and the car was in reverse or D, the car is a dsg. Can anyone she'd some light on this or give me an idea of what it may be. I'm a little concerned, especially as this didn't happen when I went for a little test drive in the car before.. :/

Really we'd need a video from both inside and outside the car to listen to it and have a guess at what is causing it. Also worth getting a full diagnostic kit to scan your car to see if it throws any error messages up.

Yeah I'm worried of this! I'll try getting a video up as soon as I can, is there a few things it could be though? Bushes, cv joint, Steering rack? Although when driving the car is fine.

I'd have to check it again to give a more accurate description. But basically it's sort of a creak noise I think, like a brake noise when on a hill stationary, and my driveway is just slightly downhill as well..

Although I just checked it again while stationary with the handbrake on and it was fine no funny noise. It may be the tyres I guess or me being paranoid. I'll keep you posted next time I drive it though.

If it is your subframe (which is a common issues) then it's £15 for a replacement kit of bolts:
