Looking at stage 2,3,4,5 :rolleye:
« on: September 25, 2015, 03:44:59 pm »
So basically my car is currently on 98k...

Im thinking something has to go soon, surely?
So instead of replacing standard parts,i was thinking about up rating them and going for 300+BHP.

Seems cheaper in my head as you can get 2nd hand parts for cheaper..

What are peoples views on this..i didnt know if to sell up but i wont find a diesel as quick and fun to drive..

So basically what parts would i need to be looking at and stockpiling  :innocent:

Ko4 etc..
Intercooler..?
Clutch..

Many thanks

Would that include the gearbox though?

Them engines are like £1700 ..

i may as well get a high mileage s3 and have the 4 wheel drive surely?

You don't need the gearbox. If you don't want to go that far past 300bhp then a K04 kit should do it. Helix organic clutch is the clutch to go for, they can take 400lbft. Cheapest intercooler upgrade is an S3 alloy intercooler. Peron also make very good intercoolers but quite pricey.

If you're looking at going quite a bit further past 300bhp then a CDL (S3) or BYD (edition 30) engine is the way to go.

well i was only going to look for the 340bhp mark...thats what the ko4 can handle comfortably isnt it?

This is my reasoning of doing it cheaply in a fashion haha

seen them clutches still alot of money :(

Dont know how realistic i am being but like i explained instead of sticking with standard parts , i may aswell upgrade and im sure it wont nbe that much more infact cheaper on some parts surely?

It's all well the K04 going up to about 320-340bhp (dependant on other modifications) but its your internals of your engine you have to consider... The CDL engines found in Golf R or Audi S3 cars are built with stronger internals that can take a lot of punishment.

A good option would be to find a bare bones CDL engine and build it up with parts either new or reconditioned. The internals should be fine untouched and most engines are sub 100K miles anyway (don't be put off by that number, the earlier engines are approaching 8 years old so 8 x 12000 = 96K!) and as mentioned, get a good clutch and your cog box will be fine.

But as you said, going for a higher mileage Audi S3 with the 4motion system is an option (I went for a Golf R for the same reasons) but I will admit, I miss the way my FWD GTI drove. The 4motion is amazing but in stock flavour its a little dull compared to my GTI with full suspension upgrades.

well i have a Cold air induction so thats the only other thing apart from what we have said? yeah i thought the 340bhp was a "safe" number  :signLOL:
i was just trying to get some realistic figures and prices ..love the golf to bits like...

right awesome thats a fairly good idea im just getting really scared with my financials at the moment being 23..haha

i cant fault how my golf drives and still gives you the feeling your driving compared to 4 wheel drive.im sure the late s3 will be having problems soon though and golf r's are too much :(

One thing I forgot to mention is compression ratios, I believe there is a difference between the K04 and K03 engines with the K04 engines running a lower compression due to the larger turbo. Truth be told, rebuilding any TFSI engine with forged rods and pistons is a good option that you can spread the cost of and build an engine to your exact spec. It's a scary idea but actually the most logical for your intention.

Thanks for all the information..i was trying to look for the most cost efficient way.
Seen as you will be able to pick up second hand ko4 parts etc for the same if not cheaper then standard parts?

what about ED30 BYD engine
does this engine have stronger pistons and con rods ???
