Edition 30's.....why such a price disparity?
« on: September 26, 2015, 01:24:50 pm »
Guys,

Am on the look out for an Ed30.

One thing I've noticed is that the price range on these cars is massive, for a car which really on sits over two registration years. I've seen cars for as little as £5.5k and as much as £12k!

Now I know mileage, spec, history, colour, location, condition, etc all will have a bearing on price but a swing of £6k? That's almost 100% different.

What drives this? I know I'll be looking around the 10k Mark for a good, low mileage example with the options I want, perhaps more. Are the ones at the lower end of the price range too cheap, or the upper end ones two expensive? I can't really figure it out as I've seen big price differences (>£2k) in similar spec and mileage cars.

It's an odd market on the Ed30.....any ideas why?

You get what you pay for, condition and history is everything on these cars. Spec makes a big difference too. I'm not sure of any being 6k, if that's so it's probably a write off that's been repaired.

The thing with an edition 30 is its only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Simple

Have a look at some of the other recent Ed30 price thread.

I'm also looking, but in no rush. Interesting, colleactable cars are trading well.  A nice Ed30 will trade over book values, some dealers and private sellers will try to offer over market to get some of this premium that a top condition, low miles car might justify.
Meanwhile, if you want to sell your average example to the trade vs a mk7 Gti for example, the dealer will give you the number in his trade book and bang it out via auction or to the trade. Hence the price dispersion and almost every seller thinks their car is so much better than it is, needing a cambelt and original perished tyres are not so good for the potential buyer!

I have seen quite a few cars still on sale after 6 months priced too highly.

I looked at a low miles car, fairly priced at a VAG dealer the other day, which was not up to standard, they had a trader coming to view, who would no doubt add a coupe of £k to the price and wait...and wait.....

Bear in mind some sellers deliberately advertise their cars high to get rid of dreamers wanting to pick a car up dead cheap. You need to see the car to know how good it is, or isn't in some cases.

I just got one this week and agree there is a massive price difference and some for no reason (but that could be said for all used cars) I do think some of it is due to the fact that people now understand it's a great car that does hold its money well, also I guess the supply & demand problem like house prices! For me I got one as a couple of friends had owned them before & both said its a car they regret selling oh plus I love golf gti so thought this is a good way of getting one that's slightly different to the others but my wife will still like driving ( had a golf rallye before & lets just say she is not keen on me getting another
