More Knocking Sounds
« on: September 28, 2015, 08:44:45 pm »
So not sure if it is related but since I saw the connector on my N205 was damaged I have noticed this loud noise now from the Engine, almost makes it sound like a Diesel. As said not sure if it is connected as the Error I get when the EML comes on goes away once I perform Basic settings for the N205 Valve error. It does however after a bit of driving come back. I have posted 2 videos below which 1 is inside the car and 1 is in the engine bay. It is hard to hear inside the car but clearly can hear it outside and is more prominent and knocking when put nearer the main section of the Engine near where the N205 Valve is situated. Anyone got any ideas.

It does sound a bit like a diesel, this is caused (I think) by the cam chain (opposite end of the engine to the cam belt), but as you put the camera near the PCV you can hear a higher pitched noise which does sound like a loose clip or something.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Cheers, The noise definitely was not there before I started getting the EML light and noticed the N205 connection was damaged but not sure if just a coincidence.

I will see if I can check closer when get the time but is a very distinct tapping noise which is hard to capture on video.

Even though N205 itself is not faulty I don't think I may need to replace, plus need a DSG service and main service coming up so dreading if I have another major issue although I do have 3rd party warranty so that may cover it

Just have a good look and poke around, a lot of the time that's how you discover the real cause of a problem. Sounds stupid, but literally just poke or wiggle stuff and see if you can find something that looks like it shouldn't be loose.

Yeah good shout and will try at the weekend but usually I find the only thing that is a bit loose is located in my head  :surprised:
