Swapping out Xenons
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:00:15 am »
Likely not everyone's taste but I am thinking about swapping out my factory fitted Xenon's with the below but noticed the line that says No for vehicles with Xenon.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEADLIGHT-DAYTIME-ANGEL-EYE-DARK-FOR-VW-GOLF-V-5-NEW-LAMPS-/371032381712?hash=item566340d910

Am I being stupid but if fitting these I would not have the xenon's anymore or is it referring to the wiring that is going to be different as I have xenon's so far from plug and play for insance

A young lad has these on his tdi at a local meet and they are terrible. Don't waste your money they look cheap, they don't fit properly and it looks like his car has been in a front end smash then put back together by a Halfrauds shelf stacker

Could do a deal, what sort of price are you looking at.

Would need to sort my new lights if I was purchasing the ones in the link if they are okay though

Big mistake if you do it but it's your car... At least you'll make someone who recognizes quality happy by selling the headlights.

I remember looking at that car, I could be wrong but I think it more like these the other member has http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk5-11-2003-2009-Headlamp-Headlight-Angel-Eyes-Style-Black-No-Motor-Pair-/121756176645?hash=item1c593bd105

I don't mind waiting, if you decide to go ahead, price wise I'm not sure

I did see them but saw them in action and don't like the position of the lights at the top

The member I am talking about is Hurdy and just saw his build thread and it was the below he got

Firstly, those headlights look terrible.
Not being harsh, just being honest.
To say they are "wank" would be an understatement.

Secondly, as your car has factory xenons you do not have the in-car headlight adjustment. If you change from Xenons (automatically adjusting) then you will not be able to adjust your headlights as appropriate based on the load of the car.

Thirdly, factory OEM Xenon-equipped cars come with 12-pin headlight plugs. All of these rubbish aftermarket headlights come equipped with 10-pin plugs.
Meaning that they won't fit.

Have fun.

Yeah I thought there would be an issue with swapping so may have a think before going ahead  :happy2:

So putting the Angel Eyes aside if at any point I were to have to swap out the Xenons for standard GTI lights say the 2 issues I would face are adjustment and the 10 pin connection instead of 12. However there must be options for this like Adapters etc and manual adjustment
