Lack of boost
« on: October 01, 2015, 09:41:59 pm »
Hi all, my car seems down on power, i bought it as stage 2, no print out or proof. But it did seem to go well. After a while i noticed slight whooossst noise. Couldnt work out if had always been there or it had just started. Since then ive changes driver side intercooler pipe, as it was slightly leaking oil. Checked dv. It already had rev G in it. But ive fitted another with no change to performance. Is there anywhere else it could be leaking from. Next on the list is pcv valve. As i read this can lead to boost lost.  I did the dipstick test for the pcv valve.
I had it scanned at vag place near me, the lad told me that there was a boost fault but didnt tell me dierectly what it was. Just started saying it could be a sticky actuator or something else. He didnt think it would of been dv valve.

If you can get someone to re-scan and tell us what the fault code way, you'll likely get an answer within an hour. :happy2:

Probably because he didn't know and read the fault code on facevalue, which was probably the code stating a pressure drop/boost leak between MAF and inlet.

What was the result of the dipstick test? PCV valve can be easily checked by blowing/sucking through the valve, and checking that air will only flow through it one way (toward the inlet and no in to the valve - plenty of guides around)

Check MAF reading, check PCV and most importantly, check your pipework for leaks. Go to a decent garage and have a smoke/pressure test done of the pipework if you can't find it

Cheers dan, when i pulled dipstick its wanted to cut out/ran rough. It was a vag specialist garage that looked at it, but he read the fault codes of a snapon solus reader, which i dont think will go in to depth about the code faults like vagcom will.
I tryed driving it with maf unplugged, felt alittle better more responsive, but not at full potential. I would say my car feels 75-80%. It's more the air leak sound that makes me think theres a boost leak. As i dont think it should make that noise???
