Hello people! I picked up my gti a week ago and must say it's a very nice car and I'm loving it. Been a massive fan for a long time! Mine is on a 05, engine code AXX. However I am worried of the fuel consumption which is not great, let's be straight I didn't buy the car expecting it to be as frugal as my tdi but I am genuinely concerned it's too high on my car!
Let me cut to the chase and explain why, when I pulled the car out for the first time it was more or less bone dry! So I went straight to my local bp and filled her up with £35 of normal unleaded at £1.07p a litre which sent the needle to 3/4 full. Sorry I can't remember the range it was showing initially but roughly I'd say 210 or something like that. Anyway this was Friday evening and i only stuck local over the weekend, so it was just town driving pottering around as they say!
The reason I'm concerned is, although yes I did have some fun here and there, I didn't really thrash the day lights out of it. Come today evening I've only done around 100 miles and the fuel level shot down to the 1/4 tank mark!? So thats something like around 14/15 mpg with the range showing 75miles which is probably ambitious to say the least! Are they really that bad local or could it be something more!
I must add it's a dsg but I was expecting abit more tbh. I thought maybe it could achieve around 150 miles at least? My commute is a 20 mile round trip to work during peak times with a mix of stop start and motorway. I have just chucked another £30 in now and range is showing 215 miles, I intend on taking it nice and easy to work and back and see what that gets me!
I apologise for the essay but can someone elaborate and advise me whether this sounds about right? Car is fully stock as well, haven't done the pcv check yet and I don't think DV is faulty either. Any advice will be greatly received..
