LED Sidelights - Not working
« on: October 06, 2015, 08:55:41 am »
Attempted to change my sidelights over the weekend.
Bought the Osram LEDs - so decent make/quality, however I cant get them to work.

I get a message on the dash: ''Front left parking light''
However the strange thing is, when I unlock the car they come on for a few seconds before going off and leaving the dipped beams on as normal.

Had a quick search on here, and swapped over/checked the fuses (F47, F48) - didnt have anything in F25, F26 & that made zero difference.
Also swapped them back for regular bulbs and have the same issue.

Am I missing something obvious here? as they come on briefly I take it that they are in correctly/right way round?
Could it be the switch inside the car? :sad1:

Thanks

It's the bulbs - simple as that. They don't draw the same current that normal bulbs do so the car thinks a bulb is out.

Bulb fault should clear automatically once you go back to normal bulbs, althogh i once had to use VCDS to clear a bulb fault that simply wouldn't go even after bulb replacement.

So clearing of the fault could see them working properly?

They were marketed as retro fit, plug and play from osram. Lesson learnt.

It'll work if you refit the original bulbs... You will not get those LEDs to work properly without fitting additional load resistors

You need to make sure you buy CAN-BUS LED.

I've tried half a dozen 'CAN-BUS' LEDS for the sidelights and they all throw up an error on mine, specifically when the lights are left on 'Auto' and come on with the ignition (when it's dark)

I gave up with them in the end

I use on my GT Sport LED from Bold Sport. One died after almost one year of use but they sent me a new pair after I complained about it.

My Ed. 30 has LED but I don't know their origin, they were already fitted when I bought it. No issues so far.

I have the same issue with an aftermarket HID kit I installed. Both lights work when I unlock the car at night, yet when driving the drivers side doesn't work. Gonna invest in some canbus ballasts that will hopefully fix the problem.

Btw, your Leon's electronics should be similar to the mk6's electronics, so you might need to upgrade your BCM or try fitting resistors. At least for the rear lamps and license plate it works that way for the mk6...

My leon is based on Mk5 electronics, not Mk6. No issue with the numberplate LEDs but after buying about 5 pairs of sidelight LEDs i gave up as i can not be bothered fitting additional load resistors

Philips do a version of LED sidelights that might be worth trying: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00OYT11RE?colid=VEO3Y4BZMSOY&coliid=I3F2TTPA3IRGKZ&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl

It seems to be a bit hit or miss whether these will throw up an error however Philips do this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-0730170-12956B2-Cea-6700/dp/B00BG5CDVM/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1444133079&sr=1-2&keywords=philips+canbus

If you get canbus errors

I see, you've been very unlucky with those lights. I can only vouch for the Bold Sport LED, no errors so far.

I bought these: http://www.bold-sport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=43_39_57&product_id=76

Make sure they are compatible with yours (should be). I hope they work for you.

Are those bold sport ones in a different place to the OEM sidelights? Mine seem to be slotted in an angle near my main beam...  Those look like they sit in the lower section?
