Resonator delete vs downpipe
« on: October 07, 2015, 12:01:44 am »
Hi all. Can't sleep so quick post and question!

Basically I've got a fully stock dsg, one of the first things I wanna do is get some sound out of my gti! I want to enhance the dsg fart when shifting so it sounds a lot louder and better. But I also want the car to sound nice when pressing on, deep not ricey.

So should I try the cheaper resonator delete first or not waste my time and money and just go for a downpipe? What do you guys recommend please? Also with a downpipe can anyone tell me where I can get a decent one for a reasonable price?

Forgive my ignorance, but if I go the downpipe route should I go catless or catted. I understand the latter would be more expensive! And I believe you also get the engine management light on with DP? Any help will be appreciated :)

Centre resonator delete will give deeper note and dsg fart. See youtube plenty of vids  :happy2:

If thats not enough then try downpipe too. But do resonator first

A decat downpipe with the standard catback gives a great sound not to mention better performance when giving it the beans! But is not annoying/boy racer loud when driving normal/around town.

You can pick one up on eBay for £150 too!

I did a Reso-delete and the sound improvement is satisfying. When seeking more performance...do the DP or full TB. A DP with a Reso-delete will sound better.

Hmm I see. I think I'm going to try and get the res deleted first. As I may just be satisfied with that on its own.. unless I decide to go stage 1 or something I'll get a ebay DP

With the eBay Downpipes + 100/200 cell sports cat, is there any specific ones to get or are they all very much the same?

Reason i ask is i remember another thread a while back mentioning that the longer the flexi pipe on the bay one's, the better and less likely to crack welds or something?

Correct me if i'm wrong.. Also, if someone was to buy the downpipes with a sports cat apposed to the decay downpipe, would you still need to have your car mapped to get rid of any CEL warning light or any other lights that may come on?..

A 200cell catalyst will give you the error code 50% of the time...50% being just a guess as many have run into that situation. A de-cat pipe will definitely give the code. A 400cell cat works best. If you get the code...only a change in a tune will mask the error code or you can try a mechanical fix with a lambda O2 spacer if catted with a 100 or 200 cell.

You could try Tony Banks in Leeds, makes custom exhausts, I'm sure he could sort out what you need.
