Weird problem & no lights (symptoms in post)
« on: October 13, 2015, 11:13:44 am »
Hi guys,

I've got an '08 Mk5 GT TDI 170 that has been impeccable for the last few years. However, in the last month it's developed a problem when cruising at 80+ ...

Under normal circumstances (hard & gentle driving) it's great but intermittently when cruising, if I want to accelerate to overtake someone who tries to speed up as I go past (grrr!) I get literally no increase in speed or revs until I lift off the accelerator. I then have to progressively feed in the power to speed up.

I've got no dash lights or loss of mpg, if it helps.

Anyone got any pointers for what could be causing this?

Thanks.

Torn DV?
Busted PCV?
Damaged Cam Follower?

Scan it :)

I did have it scanned and have a VCDS code

P0299-006 - "control range not reached" - Intermittent

Could this be related? If so, which of the above does it point to?

I'd say so mate, check the Ross Tech site for the error here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16683/P0299/000665

Check the Pipe work and DV first.  Most likely split DV. :happy2:

Key piece of info omitted - it's a TDI 170. (:rolleye:) Now edited the OP.

I may be wrong but I swear I read a post that said this engine doesn't have a diverter valve and PCV?

Anyone offer any insights?

Thanks again!  :happy2:

@xjay1337 is your man for anything Diesel related - hope it isn't the Turbo, is it making any unusual (Police Siren) Type noises under boost?

There is a section for your engine, assuming it's the CR 170:

--
When found in VW Golf/Jetta (1K): 2.0l CR-TDI (CBEA/CJAA):
Verify the mechanical part of the Exhaust Valve Control Module (J883) is not seized or binding.

Thanks again, Scotty.

It's the BMN 170bhp PD engine in my car.

Thankfully, my turbo seem to be pretty quiet...

I've scoured t'internet and read multiple forum posts that point at:

- Pressure Converter Valve / Boost Control Solenoid (N75 valve?) on the bulkhead
- Perforated diaphragm in the Vacuum Actuator/ Turbo Actuator ?
- Intake Manifold Flap Actuator
- Perished/split inlet manifold gasket

... As the main culprits?

Anyone offer any advice on which is the most likely? Thanks.
