Result from listers VW today!
« on: October 17, 2015, 08:14:44 am »
Had an amazing outcome from listers today. I bought my ED30, having searching the ED30 register on here for the previous owner, and trawling through his previous posts, which is a great tool for a background check on a car btw!

anyway, i have 'score' marks on my front door sills and rust under the door hinge corner, door shuts are all fine so couldn't work out why its done it..... took it into Listers approved VW service centre, they did a paint inspection, sent it off to VW for approval, as its only 7 years old. now i have noticed my passenger front wheel arch has some rust, and as soon as i had mentioned it to the Inspection bloke at Listers he said no problem we are aware of this you'll get a new arch. on the bad side, the drivers arch has rust but only on the flange which holds the wheel arch liner in, and he informed me that VW would 'repair' this instead of replacing this arch, and it would be best to wait until the rust has migrated to the face of the wheel arch

so anyway, i think i will chance their repair, and when they go in for a spray I'll pay them to respray the bonnet too as its littered with stone chips  :sad1:

I would upload a picture but don't know how! :ashamed:

I've recently had similar no quibble rust warranty experience with my Local Listers too.

I also want bonnet resprayed while wings are being done.  Been quoted £310+vat to have that done.  I'd be interested in knowing what you are quoted.

Bonnet painting should be half that.

I've got another thread going about the cost!  Thing is they are doing my wings under warranty so the color match would be spot on rather than getting someone else to do bonnet.

Another happy customer here. Replaced my wings and sills, top job! Highly recommend the Coventry body shop.

I'm going through my local listers, Banbury, they may even use the same body shop as Coventry....  :rolleye:

Does anybody know the cause of the sill paint issue? The door isn't fouling the sill, and the bottom hinge corner isn't touching the sill, don't quite understand why it does it. Unless there is a roof drain pipe exit around this position.

I've got another rust spot on the drivers door appature, exactly the foot width of a roof rack away from the mount point

Listers have already said they won't fix this on warranty

Not Listers paintshop, they gave me a quote for a 50p section of lacquer and to replace a rear badge = 800  :surprised:

Listers were keen to replace my front wings too.  I went in for an unrelated problem and they found a tiny amount of bubbling on both front arches which I hadn't noticed.  You really had to look hard to see it so they must have been looking for it (common problem apparently).  They put in a warranty claim and it was approved and a few weeks later I had two new wings :)

FOR SALE!

So I have had a response from Listers, confirming that VW has rejected my door sill claim  :stupid: but will happily do one arch and repair the other. to be honest the Sills bother me more at the minute than the Arches. VW's reason was because there must of been an outside influence to cause the damage to the paint  Fair enough I guess. so I questioned why there is a puddle of rust right below the door hinge line, surely the only outside influence would be the door fouling! which as my door shut lines are all square and perfect i do not understand how this can happen  :rolleye:.

Does anyone know what would happen with respect to a potential claim if they determined that you had previously had the wings painted? Lets suppose they were painted while a bonnet was painted to ensure colour matching and it was done a VW bodyshop.

Gone but not forgotten :-)

Hi Mike

This is the same on both front door sills.

It's pretty hard to get a decent picture of the rust under the door

Any chance it's had a rear wing repair at some point and blown in across the sill to match the paint? Hard to see from the pics, sorry they said no!

I've not seen rust coming up from further along the sill before (usually just near the front arch). Was there any rub strips on there before, trying to think how water could collect there or underneath it!?

Listers has told me it must of been an outside influence and they won't touch it
