Hey all.

I have just bought myself a mk5 GTI on an 06 plate.

I have driven Saab 9-3 Aero's for the past 10 years as i have wanted something a but more luxurious and that didn't cost the earth to buy, plus i bought a house so cars had to take a back hand for a while.  Before that i was into impreza's, and now 15 years later i find myself with the car bug again and am looking to modify my GTI.

Just a few questions:

It has the after market sat nav fitted.  Is this the unit that is refered to as the RCD500/510?

If i wen't for a full down pipe r200 cat replacement exhaust from BCS, would it pass emissions for MOT? - I used to hate having to put the CAT back on the scoob when having to pass MOT emissions tests.

It has the superchips bluefin fitted.  Can i download updated maps for the programmer if i decide to add mods such as upgraded filter and exhaust?

What is the most popular front splitter that i seem to see fitted to a lot of modded mk5 Golf's?

TIA all.

Looking forward to getting into the modding game again.  :jumping:

Here's a pic of my old impreza for memory sakes.

If you have the 3rd generation satnav it is the RNS510, the RCD510 is the one without satnav.
As for the downpipes with 200 cel sports cat, it should pass MOT but most people will probably advise to give the car a real good blast out and warm it up before you drop it off for MOT just to make sure.

Love scoobys, my dad had one when I was growing up.

I think the splitter your on about would be the ed30 splitter that comes as standard on the edition 30 mk5 gti... Or the votex is similar. Google the ed30 splitter and see if that's the one you mean. And get some pics of the gti!  :happy2:

I loved that scooby.  Had it running as an every day car to and from work etc and tracked it a few times.  Running 300bhp and 300lb's/ft torque at 17.5 psi. Notorious around here in bristol for a few years on the ring road.

I don't want such a beast from the GTI though as i am feeling old for my 35 years now and have more interest in how the stereo sounds as a priority these days...;)

Are the ed30 splitters easy to come by and fit?

Edit - Pics coming soon, picking up tomorrow...:)

Got the car last night.  Very happy.

The only thing i think i want to change is the stereo.  It has the volume but it isn't really bassy enough for me. It's punchy but i listen to a lot of hip hop/dub and jungle, so i need the sub bass.  I have the RNS510 from the mk6 apparently, so would want to keep that an add an external amp or something.

I will post a thread in the appropriate section for ICE upgrades...:)

Only pic i have atm - Private plate removed now:

The bluefin makes it pretty rapid.  I have made at least 3 pointless journeys to various places just for an excuse to go out for a blast today.

Nope.  1993 WRX import.

Spent loads of money modding it.  Used to eat boxsters for breakfast.

Ah I had a 93 WRX STi that looked just like that!. Man, that was one of the best cars I ever owned. I nearly killed my ex girlfriend in it though and it was my last performance car because of it (well until I bought the GTI recently).

Yep loved that car.  I used to drive it hard all the time and it never missed a beat. Was my daily car to and from work places as i work as a field engineer.

I almost wanted to chain myself to the car and stop the person buying it off me i liked it that much.  If the option to live in a cave came up i would of done that as long as it had a parking space for the scoob...;)

I remember getting it off a mate of a mate who didn't know sh*t about cars apart from what colour they were and how good his new armani top would look in the mirror.  I took it off him and rolled it and it peaked at 191bhp and some stupidly low torque figure, the guys i took it too were great (Interpro here in sunny bristol), £190 later i was out running a car with 247bhp and 240lb/ft torque after apparently just a good service and sorting of some actuator issue.

Was running about a bar on manual controller and i used a manual plug in EPROM to upload ECU Maps, rather than the digital ones via programmers like today.  Finally finished with 300bhp after fitting new IC and custom RR re-mapping via modified ECU EPROM we fitted.

I'm looking forward to getting the GTi to a similar level, not the 300, just the 250, along with a sorted stereo system, which, tbh, is more important to me than more than 250bhp in a FWD car...;)

I used to have a few mates working for Tileys in Bristol, which was a subaru garage, not sure if they are still around.

I only had 1 near scrape coming through some lanes, when meeting a tracktor around a narrow corner travelling at about 80mph!

I used to have a classic impreza too but mine was an RB5 pro drive.  It handled stupidly well but the build quality was sh*t (ive always had german cars lol)
