Bass Upgrade RNS510
« on: October 24, 2015, 07:50:56 pm »
I want more low down bass for my 06 GTI with RNS510.

The standard system is punchey but not very bassy at the low end.

Can i simply add an additional amp for sub and upgraded front speakers or is it best to upgrade back speakers and amp them?

Does anyone know the size of the speakers in the front doors and in the rear?

TIA.

I wouldn't bother amping  the rear speakers just upgrade and amp the fronts then add a sub if needed after. I am about to do all this myself, have a new set of front speakers and an amp on the way, but unlikely I will get a sub.

I've heard the lack of low bass is due to the doors being badly insulated.

Hence the reason i was thinking of going sub route, or back speaker upgrade.

Any thoughts?

I've read somewhere that there's something in the RNS 510 that limits the output of the speakers (could be wrong). The problem with the front woofers is their position in the doors which is why they added a midrange speaker to get better sound separation. I would add silent coat or similar around the speakers to reduce vibrations and sound loss through the doors. The
Sound field is meant to come from in front of you which is why many don't bother with rears but I prefer having them for a surround effect even if just keeping the OEMs in. I don't know much about subs but there are enclosures you can buy so they fit in one side of the boot.

To get low bass you could add a amp but you need an adapter cable with rca for your h/u but if that's the route your going  change the header unit to after market one..I have just the fronts connected and amp and a discreet sub box look through my build thread

Do you get any vibration through the fronts then with upgraded HU?

I think that sub box upgrade looks interesting...P)

Sweet.

Is that a 12" sub?

Did you replace the front or back speakers at all?

Are you using the HU to power standard speakers, or are you powering with your after market amp?

BTW - I'm booked in later this week for western audio here in sunny bristol to advise on what they recon would be best for what i'm looking for...:)

10" sub

Standard speakers powered by the head unit. The head unit has a lot better built in amp compared to the standard vw ones.

Sub enclosure is from Visual ICE.

I was thinking of buying a 4 channel amp, bridging two channels to the sub, then using the other 2 channels to power either the standard fronts or replacements.  Do you know the wattage of the standard fronts?  I want to try and retain the RNS510.

Anyone ever fitted components up the front and disconnected rear?
