Sat nav update help required
« on: October 26, 2015, 08:26:26 am »
Hi all,

Just bought an ED30 which has nav etc built in but I'm not sure exactly what model it is or whether it's possible to update the maps and/or firmware.... Can anyone help? (picture below)

Just a little bit!

Lovely, thanks for that. Do you know whether you can run the latest maps without updating your firmware? Or do you have to do both? Updating the firmware seems a bit full on for me!

From what I'm aware you need to update and unlock the head unit before you can use the 2015 maps. I've ordered mine from a eBay seller in Slovenia still awaiting delivery. I can't use my V2 disc now though after I've updated it however

@shoaybmakda I've ended up just paying £35 for the 2015 maps, updated software and unlock code from a UK seller on eBay. I did look at the £20 ones from Slovenia but decided I didn't want to take the gamble because, knowing my luck, something would've gone wrong!

Received this little lot in the post today.... Will let you know how it goes! Sounds like it takes aaaaaages so wonder whether it might be worth giving the battery a charge first just in case?! Don't want it to die half way through!

I have now done all of the updates and everything seems to be fine. When I got out and locked the car, the unit stayed on!! I unlocked it, turned it off then locked the car again and it seems to have stayed off. Help?!?!

Scrub that, it's all now working as it should be. If anyone needs the updated software etc, let me know. Will happily sort anyone else's out locally

@shoaybmakda Thanks mate, was a bit stressful because I was convinced I was going to cock it up haha.

The unlock CD only need to be in there for a few seconds. It doesn't seem to matter if you leave it in there for a bit longer because it just keeps cycling. The software update is quite long but after that's out the way it's only a 5 minute job really. Hardly even use the sat nav, I just wanted it to be as up to date as possible!

Ah that should be nice and easy then. I'd quite like to sell the unit for an RNS510 but I've got a Parrot system as well so it's just eeeevan more faff. Plus I'm not sure about the whole CAN bus malarkey
