Coilovers

Hey I'm after some advice I'm looking for some coilovers for my mk5 golf gti but not looking to spend the earth can anyone recommend some please  .....thank you

Quite a few people on here seem to go with the AP setup for around £400 brand new.. Any cheaper than that then expect a bad ride and poor quality is what I'm lead to believe..

I had a set of fk ak streets on my last golf and ride was spot on to be fair no harder than stock springs

To be honest, a set of decent springs and anti roll bars would be better for road use than full coilover suspension. A set of progressive springs matched to some anti roll bars will see smooth ride quality, much improved handling and won't cost the Earth to source either.

Im in the same boat, thinking whether to get the fk coilovers or some eichach/h&r springs  :stupid:

The one downside to H&R springs (if being low is a priority) is that they only drop the car by 30mm.

But... in every other way, even with standard shocks, they're brilliant. Ride quality, handling, they do the job very well.

For me, lowering a mk5 GTI to the point where you hold your breath driving over a twig kind of misses the point. With the H&Rs you can enjoy the car for how it was designed - on dodgy b-roads.

If 'lows' is your thing, AP, KW, Bilstein are good.

If you aren't looking to spend a fortune, I can recommend the FK Highsports.

I'm currently running them and have to say they are very good for the price.
Helpers are out as well, but don't loose too much of the comfort from standard.

Can pick up brand new set for around £400

Don't h and r do a lowering spring that lowers around 50mm?

What do you want from coilovers?
Do you want to go low low?
Do you want to go just lower than springs will allow?

Im looking to go low but not super low as I've got a three month old daughter so low but still with a good ride so maybe springs ?
