Replacing Halogens with OEM Xenons

Hi Guys,

Recently picked up a set of OEM xenons to replace my currently halogen lights with. Fitted the Xenons today and all the lights (apart from fogs and rear lights) are showing as defective.

What exactly do I need to do to get these OEM xenons functioning? Do I need to a new central control module, tell the central control module through vcds that the car now has Xenons etc? Help would be really appreciated.

Nope... How do I do that? I bought the Kufatec adapters today so hopefully have them in a few days. Am I right in saying that the standard Halogen adapters are 10 pins and the xenons need 12, so obviously the 2 extra pins are related to the voltage supply to start the igniters?

You need vcds to tell the car you have fitted xenons otherwise you will run into issues

I have a lad coming over later to code the Xenons. I'm still kind of concerned that nothing is working at the moment tho. I have the adapters ordered so they will be here Wednesday.

Should the parking lights etc not be working ? How can I diagnose any electrical issues .ie are the Ballasts/ Igniters nackered etc?

maybe thats why theres a problem. Try the adapters and let us know if theres any difference

Just installed the adapters there. Left side is working but Xenon is flickering like crazy. Right side not working at all. I can't get the "click sound" like I did when slotting the adapter in on the left side. Coding I presume will get rid of the flicker.

When installing the igniter etc I was having issues getting the igniter to sit on properly.

I wouldnt install xenons before coding them.

Also, the ignitor can be a pain sometimes, take it off and make sure the plastic washer inside is aligned correctly to allow the little lugs on the bulb to go inside .

I spent hours trying to figure it out the first time I fit them and turns out it was because the washer wasnt aligned lol

Ive had one occasion where Kufatec adapters wouldnt click in, turns out I had to file down some of the plastic inside the adapter and then it fit.

Yeah the igniters are a right pain to get them slotted on correctly. Had no problems with the left side but the right hand side I couldn't get it for the life of me.

When you refer to filing the plastic down a bit. Which part of the plastic?

There was a tab on the inside of the outer plastic.  Cant see it on this pic. Tbh i cant remember if it was on the car loom or the kufatec loom.

Hmmm ok cheers!.... I'm gonna swap the adapters from side to side, when I get out of work and see if that does the trick! Failing that shall give the filing a shot and double check the igniter on the right side.

Not able to remove the adapter on the left side cos of the K&N air intake and the heat shield being in the way. Will need to remove all this in the daylight. For now though it feels like there is something stopping the adapter from going in the fully way. I tried it on the old light housing units and the same thing is happening. So its defiantly something blocking it, just cant see what it is.
