Dsg problem, after some advise
« on: October 29, 2015, 06:32:23 pm »
Hi, my dsg has died. Had the flashing gear lights and it would only select first I'm guessing as a limp home, clutches still work fine etc so I had it plugged in and could not get communication with mechatronic unit so thought it was that at fault.
Have removed it and sent it to ecu testing and they have said it is beyond repair so I now need another mechatronic unit,my question is are they car specific ie could I use one from Audi or skoda etc or does anyone know a place apart from the stealers? Cars now been of the road for months really want it fixed any help would be great. Ben

Thanks for the reply but I've already done that. My unit is beyond repair I want to know if any units from Audi or skids etc can be used? Can't find a decent priced vw unit

Try and cross reference part numbers? If you find one with the same part number (Or most importantly the letter at the end of the part number, if it has one) even if its from a different vehicle you can be 99% sure it will be compatible, don't think there would be any coding differences between them but software can usually be rectified :)

Thanks Ben. I've looked everywhere my gearbox code is hut and engine code is axx
Have not been able to find a hut coded box but have found a hrw and the sellers says it will fit?

Would love to be able to give you some solid help on this as it sounds like you're in a real bind

Don't have much useful help for you except to say, as has be said before, watch out got the final letter on your part number. It can make all the difference. Ask me how I know :ashamed:

Will the seller of the hrw coded gear box control unit take it back/refund you if it doesn't work? Best of luck with it :happy2:

Picked up the gearbox last night 8 hour round trip to whales from Kent. I am going to try just fitting the mechatronic unit as my gearbox is fine as far I'm aware...... Will let you know how it goes. What happened to you with the part numbers??
