VW Anti-Corrosion Warranty Extra Charge
« on: September 07, 2015, 06:48:01 pm »
So I dropped my off at VW St Albans today and within a couple hours got a call from a guy at the authorised body shop, saying that VW only pay for the wings to be sprayed (I'm getting the wings replaced for free under the warranty). He said it doesn't include the fading of the colour into the doors and due to the age and colour of the car (06 plate and factory pearlescent blue) it is 99% likely going to be a mismatch. He quoted me £340 Inc. VAT to spray the doors as well and fade the wings into them. I then asked him how much it would be for the bonnet to be stripped, primed and repainted as I have major chips and rust forming on it and he said £160. So £500 altogether.

1.) Is this a legitimate reason to charge me?

2.) How can VW get away with only paying for the wings even if it creates a mismatch?

3.) Finally, is this a good price?

Any advice would be much appreciated as money is a bit tight at the mo but the car is already booked in so not sure what to do really.

I wouldn't be happy, I'd be on the phone to VW customer services.

They don't blend onto the doors.
I don't think you'll find any place does when it comes to warranty work.
Blending (as it's called) is only always preferred but usually  blues aren't too bad. Worst colours are whites, silvers, light blues etc.
I had just the wings done on my old 1.9 TDI and that was fine. I paid to have the doors bonnet and bumper done on my GTI and they painted over defects in the rubstrips. Pretty poor.

I got the front wings done on mine at the start of the year and same story, would not blend into doors unless I paid

Same even on Tornado red they managed to get a pretty good match without blending.
