Nope. It's definitely not plug and play. You have to swap the lower frames over, cut a couple of inches from your original gear knob.

i was one of the first to fit a mk7 gearknob back in 2014
drill into the gearknob from the bottom up . can't remember the size bit you need.. whatever the size of the shifter shaft was (easy to find with ring spanner)
simply remove stock one. unstaple mk7 leather from mk7 base
restaple mk7 leather onto mk5/6 base or use araldite just make sure you have got the leather pulled nicely.
drill up through gearknob enough to get the shifter in the correct position
tighten up clip and secure the base
saves ruining your oem components which are more fiddly to change
