Hi there! - Help, can't decide between GTi or Edition 30
« on: December 28, 2009, 01:35:18 pm »
Hi there
Just joined after lurking for a while.
Looking at getting a GTi in the next few weeks.  Decided on Steel Grey and must be 5 door as have a family.
I have had a MK1, 2, & 3 GTi and a MK4 GT TDi in the past, used to be mad on golfs for years, had about 9 of them  :happy2:.
Didnt get a MK5 due to cost of them and got a 2003 facelift 330ci coupe (cracking car) but cant cope with 3 doors with the baby so its gotta go!

Could do with help, seen a 06 GTi with 27k, leather for £14k and a 07 Edition 30 with 52k for £14k.
Swayed by ED30 as I imagine it will hold value well if the nightmare I had getting a MK4 GTi anniversary is anything to go by!! Gave up and got GT TDi.

Anyhoo, I'll shut up, banged on enough!

Great site BTW   :happy2:

Welcome on board John.    :happy2:

In regards to which GTI to choose. If you are going to get caught by the modding bug, then i would plump for the ED 30. If your not then either would be great  :jumpmove:

Get the best car you can for the money, which, for the two above examples would be the Ed 30. Abit newer but more miles should be ok as these are probably motorway miles. The extra equipment and BHP on an Ed30 would sway it for me, plus, as you say, abit more exclusivity  :happy2:

Cheers guys, Edition 30 my gut feeling also, @ 52k miles will only just be run in, I have had previous GTis with well over 100k miles and they drove great.  I was only looking for standard GTi but this looks too good to miss, must be fate.  Will pop along and get a look and drive of it this week.
Know anyone who wants a cracking 330ci coupe (mint, intact 1st aid kit, toolkit, torch etc - all the best signs I understand!) before they rip me off with the trade in price  :happy2:

I had the same dilema. In the end I reckoned whatever premium I paid for an ED30 would be worth it as the residuals would be stronger and you do have that slight exclusivity during ownership.

I bought an ED30 in the end am I'm pleased I did.

I'd buy an edition 30, then find someone with a standard GTI and swap interiors with them for some money your way

I think everything about the ed30 is better than standard GTI, but I hate the interior. I would rather not have any red stitching anywhere and Idon't like the pattern either, which is why I have full leather in mine.

Garth - not seen ED30 in the flesh yet but I do like the look of the check interior in the standard one so i'll be interested to see what the part leather is like.  The standard GTi I have seen on the web has the vienna leather in.
