My Ed. 30 has 35k miles and 6 years, so I've decided to change the cambelt eventhough the manual doesn't states any required time, just mileage. I got the kit from VW and the box stated the cambelt had an expiration date of 10/2017. If it has an expiration date in the box, don't you agree it will also expire in the car?

Even more so in the car as it's constantly subjected to heat cycling, which hardens it over time, but I'd say that one would be OK to use tbh.  Still got 2 years on it before it 'goes off' and belts generally last longer than specified.  It's just one of those mitigating risk things.

Yeah, I'll change it in 4 years since I'll have the car tuned to stage 2+. If I left it with the stock map I'd only change it in 5. I don't preview doing a lot of miles in that period, just leisure drives and if all go as planned 2-3 track days per year.

My golf 06 as 27000 on the clock . And I do just two and a half thousand a year at best . I left my belt for longer than I should  but it was always on my mind about it . Just had it done at vow parkway £349 including water pump . Feel loads better now it's done .
I waited longer than I should but only because I do very little mileage . Will not leave it again

My VW handbook says the Cambelt is good for 120,000 miles!

Had cam belt and water pump done today £349 at VW, at stage 1 with APR map. Also DSG oil change £179 so both done for the second time as coming up to 8 years old at the end of this month. I just think of it as an insurance policy to give me piece of mind. I'm at 45568 miles so the DSG oil didn't need doing but when I come to sell it on people can see its been looked after.

Defiantly felt smoother on the journey home but it was only 3 miles in stop/start traffic.

Audi's policy is every 5 years/75K on the exact same engine. So I'm using that as my reference!

Exactly this. I did mine at 5yrs on 30k miles at the Seat dealership. My local VW's price match guarantee wouldn't!

Well i got the Cam belt + water pump changed today. Also got new OEM engine, gearbox + dogbone mounts done at same time (it was making a knocking when turning over). Cost from my local VW specialist was £255 for labour, I supplied all parts from TPS except the coolant, so fairly happy with that.
