Bought an AUX Cable, easy to fit?
« on: November 04, 2015, 11:30:42 pm »
Hi guys,

Bought an AUX cable a good month or so ago for my mk5 GTi, however I still haven't got round to fitting it.... i am under the impression i have to remove my headunit/satnav unit (its the factory fitted sat nav unit) and plug the cable in the back, but i have no idea how easy that is, or where to put the cable once its plugged in! If anyone could shed some light on it that would be great!

I have MFD2 too, with cd-changer.

I used a videos from youtube to get a clear picture how it is done.
For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea8nos5SbLw.

You can't miss the location where to a new aux-connector will be attached, only one place to attach it (above radio connectors).
If you have cd-changer, you will loose it, since the new aux-connection goes to only "A/V-plugin" port, too.
Connector place is marked as "A/V plugins" here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2503019.

I hope there is a way to connect extra aux and to keep cd-changer?

Removal of the radio isn't a difficult job but it's a bit 'knacky', you need to know where the clips are and where you can and can't afford to pull. I've followed a couple of videos on YouTube on how to do it and found them very helpful. I'm not sure about fitting the aux cable, but removal of the stereo shouldn't be too bad.

The headunit is the MFD2 sat nav unit and the cable i have is a MFD2-JACK, as far as im aware, it plugs into the back of the unit and i have to feed the cable through somewhere into the cabin?

I followed that exact video when I did mine.

Just be careful the plastic fascia bit of the radio is very easily broken - take care.  All in all, it's quite simple to do.  Fiddliest bit I found was squeezing the aux cable down the side by the glove box and having it nice and neat.

Me too - I currently have an iPod connector in mine instead of the changer but wouldn't mind putting an aux too.

Take your time with it. I ended up getting stressy as I was in a rush and it was like 25 degrees which resulted in me snapping tabs off pretty much every bit of it which fell down into the dash/vents. Also now pretty much every bit of the dash rattles since I've done it. Has anyone actually managed to do it without breaking anything and without ending up with some sort of annoying rattle?
