Nicer integration with iPhone and DNX520VBT? MDI?
« on: October 02, 2015, 11:25:00 pm »
This got ignored in general so having a try in here!

Hey guys. I have a 2006 gti which came from the factory with the rcd300 headunit, amp under the passenger seat and nowhere to plug in USB or aux. About a year ago I got hold of a Kenwood DNX520 VBT and since then have been coping with 2 wires dangling all over my gear selector and handbrake. One to charge my iPhone and one for aux. (From the same iPhone)

My question is, what exactly is needed for me to integrate it a little more nicely? As if it had come from the factory with the aux/USB options and had the Kenwood added. I've seen those nice OEM USB and aux sockets and would like to use them if possible.  It's a while since I fitted it so I don't remember if there is room on the back for anything else to plug in. Do I need MDI (not 100% what this is) or just an iPod wire harness?

I'm lost here, I've had a search around and most of the information I've found relates to rns/rcd units, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thankyou!

if you had the DNX525DAB instead, there's a rear usb port so you could of run the usb cable to where ever you wanted.

I don't know how you are doing yours but mine operates exactly like MDI. I control the iPod from the HU and can fully browse play lists, songs, etc. I have my iPod in the center console and the wires are not in the way at all.
