Nice new purchase- congrats, the AMG Sport 125s come pretty well specced. Seriously tempted by a Merc for my next car, not bored of the R yet though...

Its VERY well specced, however it doesn't have miles to empty which is crazy!

Anthony are you sure you haven't got one of these

Found it in the end :)

After 1,500 miles / 4 weeks I am starting to regret buying the Merc

Initial thoughts of the C204 were positive, i liked the way it drove if maybe a little sluggish but while i was getting used to the car i overlooked some its flaws.

Performance and handling
- Auto box isn’t that responsive with more lag than I had expected
- MPG is nowhere near what I was hoping to achieve at an average of 42MPG and approximately £30-£40 more a month to fill up.
- The engine is hardly refined and sounds more like skeleton pleasuring himself in a biscuit tin!
- Brakes need upgrading as there are nowhere near as sharpe as the Golf was. Loooooaaaadddssss of brake fade.

Build quality
- Interior – More squeaks than mice in a cheese factory

Entertainment
- Unbelievably bad DAB reception to the point where I have stopped using it.
- Bluetooth integration call menu is needlessly complicated and defaults to sorting by last name/first name
- Command online – Completely pointless
- Maps – cost of updating maps is stupid

Hi Andy. The selling garage has offered me a low ball trade in so I might wait until the new year and list it on autotrader. What's really annoying is how although I'm finding the various iterations of the Golf samey I still find they tick most the boxes for me. IF I come back to the VW fold, It will have to be a MK7 GTD in Candy white, it just so happens my local VW dealer has a couple........

This is my first auto and I'm not going to lie, it sucks. Hopefully DSG is better!

:sad1: Sorry you're not feeling full return on your cash Anthony.

IMO all four cylinder diesels sound like a sack of sh*t, especially cold, but a DPF delete can help that and mine is certainly smoother when warm and of course tuned.

The gearbox I can relate to - is it the steering dash column gearbox control that most of the new Mercs seem to have?
I hate this tbh. It's like a 70's American estate from the old movies, just unnatural for the European market IMO. I had an early 2015 C-Class C200 saloon petrol auto earlier this year for the weekend and although the engine was poor anyway, the box didn't help that.

Is it too late to trade for a 330d? I've seen some for £20k with under 40k miles now which represents great value.

I'd be confident that for most people, the six cylinder and ZF Auto with the kit it has (in M Sport trim) would improve on 80%, if not nearly all of the points you've listed above, obviously with personal perception in mind too  :happy2:

Hope you're not tied in too much to either upgrade the above bits or chop it for something that makes you happier  :driver:
Pete

The dpf delete is now totally illegal and company's advertising the removal and mapping around it will get prosecuted

Great choice  :happy2:

Still finding stuff but I know it has:
Xenon/LED headlights (cornering which I think is standard now)
LED DRL’s
Adaptive cruise control
Colour instrument cluster
DAB+
Bluetooth with multimedia streaming
Front+rear parking sensors
Folding door mirrors with dip on reverse
TPMS
18” Alloys

Other than a service which is being done by VW Southampton and paid for by the garage I bought the car from it doesn’t need anything to the point where the only thing missing is Satnav which I am looking at the moment – thinking Navigation Pro..

Cor - Totally illegal, as opposed to just illegal Andy?

Plenty of tuners are still offering DPF deletes, very publically and they're still very accessible. Yes they don't comply with the road traffic act or MOT standards and haven't for some time now, it's presumably still something diesel track cars/race cars will have done so there wouldn't be any prosecutions on face value of offering such a service. As I understand it it's not breaking the law to have it done, but breaking the road traffic act to drive a car with no DPF on UK roads.

These look great in Black Anthony, I'm glad you put right the wrongs  :happy2:

Was it a simple case of giving it back, trouble free?

The merc most of been bothering you Anthony as you swapped already and a great choice as well,be interested how you compare it to the merc after a few weeks
@rdfcpete
Far as am aware it's just for the road use,not sure if the law is coming in or it is now

I don't think it's possible to upgrade from another car, vw have locked the radio to the car - which is good because the units aren't stolen - I think the only way forward will be a 3rd party radio/sat nav or car play/mirror link if your car is new enough.

The Mk7 is not mod friendly like the Mk5 - that's why I went for the best spec I could find - get yourself registered on golfgtiforum, lots more info on the MK7. Not much on here.
