Temp gauge

Just wondering how long it should take to warm up. My mk4 and Audi A4 was always at 90 by the time I get to work which is around 5miles.

Does the thermostat need replacing or is it normal in the mk5 gti for temp to take a while to reach 90?

It's pretty well documented if your TFSI takes a while to warm up it's usually the thermostats. It has 2.
3 if you have a DSG.
I like later model ones have 1, or 2 if you have a DSG?

I've recently come from a Mk4 Gti to a Mk5 Gti.  Since the colder weather has started in the mornings I find the Mk5 takes quite a bit longer to warm up than the Mk4 did.

When it wasn't as cold it got to 90 fairly rapidly.  Like you, im not sure if its a thermostat issue or just a characteristic of the engine.

You can use VCDS and check the engine temperature. My Ed. 30 had a failed DSG thermostat although the temp gauge reached 90ºC. I only found out when I fitted a PolarFIS Adv. module and could see that my engine was working at 74ºC. It only reached 90ºC when stopped.

When I bought my ED30, it generally sat at 75 C whilst driving and only got up to 90 C when stationary. Replaced the 'main' thermostat (but also had replacements for the other two just in case!) and it sorted it out. It now gets up to 90 C after about 1-2 miles and stays there

In the engine module you search for the Measuring Block corresponding to the engine temp.

Just for your information, 75 degrees is displaged as 90 on the gauge.
The gauge starts moving at 50 degrees :)
