Seriously annoying window problem
« on: December 29, 2009, 04:54:24 pm »
Hi guys

I've had a problem with my drivers side window since I bought my car last Jan - basically if I open the window just a bit, a couple of inches, whatever, when I press the button for the window to go up, it starts to go up then proceeds to go almost to the bottom. I then cannot put the window back up again unless I turn the ignition on and then I have to hold the button up (it doesn't do one touch). I've tried leaving the ignition on when putting the window back up but doesn't seem to make a difference. Sometimes (when I'm lucky) the window works ok... very rarely though.

What could be the problem here becuase it's relly starting to irritate me big time!   :fighting:

TIA

Have you tried lubricating inside the window runs?

If its dry it could cause some resistance when the window going up causing the window to think its jamming so it goes back down. To get the window to be one touch again put the window up and then hold the button in the up position for a few seconds.

Thanks Ben, will try that... what's the best way to lubricate the window runs?

I get the same thing although it doesn't happen to me as often it does to you. Mines done it about twice since ive had it (March).
I posted the problem in a different thread and somebody mentioned they get it to!

I had a similar problem with my Cupra. Turned out the ecu needed a reset by the dealer - never came back!

Try something like WD40etc i guess

push the straw into the gap where your window goes (obviously your window needs to be down) Give it a quick squirt from top to bottom front and back then see if you window works.

Was just a random thought could fix it could not but its a simple task to do to see if it helps.

Ok, thanks Steve, will try that.

Blade, that's interesting... and annoying! If mine needs that too it will wipe my Revo I assume?   :sad1:

Ollie, I'm guessing there weren't any solutions other than the ones suggested here?!

^^Unfortunately not!  :sad1:
I think the general consensus is that it is a programing problem. I also get the annoying thing where when I press the unlock button twice to unlock all the doors my passenger door stays locked. I have had VW reprogram it (or so they said) but it still does it!
Im going in Thursday to get it all sorted hopefully!  :pomppomp:

This will happen to every VW/Audi eventually. Mine does it all the time, I've learnt to live with it.

Here's what the VW tech told me:
The window has its own computer and will log the fault, to reset it press the button and hold it down till it's at the lowest point, hold the button for more than 10 seconds at this point, do the same pressing up. Also apply lubricant (wd-40) to the runners.

It worked the first time I did it but hasn't since. Worth a shot because he said to fix it permanently would be a couple of hundred pounds (not worth it IMO).
