Screwdriver bunging up hole in top radiator hose! Help!
« on: November 10, 2015, 05:33:48 pm »
I wonder if you can help.

I have just discovered that on the top radiator hose of my 2005 Gti (manual) there is a screwdriver handle being used to bung up the lower output of a large "T" piece in the top radiator hose.

I discovered this whilst trying to find out the location of the dreaded inline thermostats.

Does anyone else have a large plastic "T" piece in their radiator top hose and if it has a hose coming from it - where does it go please?

James

Do you mean that one? If so then I'm pretty sure it runs to a small metal coolant pipe that runs along the back above the turbo, the end of it should be above the timing chain cover.

Many thanks for that!

I still have the hose that you show in your picture but I have this one as well where you just have a straight hose.  Strange.

I wonder if I just need to change the hose for a new one and delete this "screwdriver mod".

Looks like the same hose I've pictured but with a second "T" section added.

If that's the case then maybe it has split at some point and instead of replacing the hose the person had cut the split section out and put that in its place?

If it is that hose then just replace the complete hose with the correct one of keep it as if it doesn't bother you and it's not leaking. Personally I'd replace it if it was my car.
