Does anyone elses DSG...
« on: November 19, 2015, 08:55:09 am »
kangaroo/ flutter revs first thing in the morning when setting off?

So the cars been off overnight - I turn the engine on and go to drive off in D mode. It will kangaroo slightly and the revs flutter until it hits second gear and then fine from then on.

If I accelerate slightly aggressively, it will also shift fine. its just when im pulling out of the car park it tends to be at slow pace.

Anyone else?

Hello Mate,

Nope!  No such behaviour from mine.....though I used to have a TT and that gearbox showed some similar symptoms.  Including a neck-snapping launch which needed to be absolutely feathered to set off smoothly.  Mechatronics feeling under the weather perhaps?

The only annoyance for me is - for example, braking into a sharp corner and then some times I feel like I could write a novel in the time it takes to re-engage to get me out of said corner (as though it's expecting me to stop every time).

Perfect in manual mode however!
Dru

Well I don't think its showing any other symtpons of a dodgy mech, especially as it happens when cold.

I did a DSG reset a couple of weeks ago. I think I did it all properly, the only thing was that at some point in the basic settings process I had to go back to the home section to find out what my four digit number was. That won't matter will it?

But the reset didn't fix it.

It also had a DSG service not too long ago.

Have you checked you gearbox mount as this causes kangaroo ing on take off at slow pace. I've had this thinking it was the mechatronic and even them clowns at VW couldn't figure it out after 4 attempts with them and a £140 down

Thanks

M

So did replacing the gear box mounts solve it?

It also only does it when it's cold which would seem odd if it were the mounts...

Mounts are stiffer when cold as they are made of rubber but once bouncing around they get warmer and weaker especially when worn out but don't tend to jerk as much. sorry missed a bit lol
Mine has completely solved the issue I had and hope you have the same luck.
You can check the mount by removing the airbox and ticking the engine back and forth preferably when it's cold as the engine gets really hot  :rolleye:

That does make sense, however even if I set off first thing in the day – it jerks, and then I stop, and set off again it wont jerk the second time. That doesn’t really leave enough time for the mounts to get warm.

I’m getting the engine remapped to stage 1, and also a DSG map at the same time. I’ve heard the map can cure some issues, im hoping this is one of them!

I'd check the mount just to be sure :)
Mine started doing it on the odd occasion as I didn't really drive the car thinking it was a dsg issue so 8 months later driving the car and using it more for a daily I noticed it getting worse.
By chance I found a neuspeed P-flo pipe and decided I wanted more noise and went about replacing the box for the pipe and Ramair filter and whilst leaning in the engine I noticed it moved vigorously so finally found my problem wih the kangaroo jerks.

Out of curiosity, what are each map costing and these cars have pure wheel spin on harsh take off so is there a way around this?.

Many thanks

R-tech stage 1 £290, DSG map £250 but if you get it done at the same time they knock a hundred off.

To be honest, I think you’ll still spin wheels if you put youre foot down. You’ll still spin the wheels if you put your foot to the floor in a manual.

Ah thanks for thr quick reply.

Sound like a good deal on the maps

I've noticed when taking a sharp turn from stand still the wheels slightly spin and I really dislike wheel spinning as I'm so used to the Quattro after five years of owning it. Now having fwd maybe I need to get used to it?.
I've realised I need to be more gentle and less aggressive with my foot and the tfsi are very responsive.

Thanks

M

Yeah I know what you mean, like pulling onto a main road from a T junction? I think going from a 4wd to any powerful front wheel drive you'll be getting that.

Yes exactly that. I've only started to drive my golf after selling the tt mk1 2 months ago and kind of getting accustomed to the golf as it is quick for 200 ps where's the tt was 260 ps after the remap and that was totally different power to the golf.

Let us know how you get on with the issue your having.

I was thinking of going k04 turbo hpfp injectors fmic but not sure now. it's the filter issue I'm having which has put me right off atm. whooshing everywhere wand lack of power where as the oem box has no issues.

Thanks

M
