Matt's Steel Grey 5door GTI
« on: November 24, 2015, 05:22:37 pm »
Hi all.

Some of you may have seen my thread on my silver TDI. Well, after owning both that and a 1.4 mk5 before hand I decided it was time to finally bite the bullet and get myself a GTI  :jumpmove: (a difficult task at 19 years old)!

I excitedly picked it up on Sunday after a couple of viewings and a test drive. It's a 55 plate gti with good service history, and only 2 previous owners, the last of which was a lady for the past 7 years. It's on 109,000 but feels tighter than my tdi, which was a year older and had only done 86.

Heres the spec:

2005
5door
steel grey
heated leather
arm rest
6cd changer
18 alloys (were polished)
axx engine.
and what i believe to be the convince pack (heated mirrors, auto lights etc).
Also has Goodyear efficientgrip  tyres all round

And here's a few mods for the near future:

rev g DV
cam follower

pcv replacement
cam chain and tensioner replacement
new centre caps
3d or mk6 rear badge
stubby aerial
new number plates
led plate lights
upgrade headlight bulbs
Edition 30/ r32 rear lights
Depo/Hella Xenon style headlights
interior led bulbs
new door grabs
floor mats
chrome tipped switches
MFD2 headunit
vw bottle opener for cup holder
gti seat lever inserts
remap
exhaust system
induction kit (Ramair)
black coolant and washer caps
lower- probably just springs (H&R springs)
wheel spacers
smooth front grill

It drives well and has had almost a grand spent on it in July including cam belt, water pump, rear shocks... the list goes on.
Everything seems to work bar the key fob unlocking and locking the drivers door (does all the rest)! Im pretty certain it needs a new DV so will probably order a Revision G from awesomegti this week, perhaps along with a cam follower.

Enough blabbing for now; here she is after a wash and wax today:

For its age the car's in pretty good nick, however I've got some work to do:

And the wheels, which were refurbished just before I bought the car (shame they were painted and not re-polished).
.. i think I've got a slow puncture!

and heres the TDI:

Already set about cleaning the exhausts today, not very successful but it was only 5 minutes work so didn't expect great results.
Before:

After:

And the first mod:

Then a new rear wiper!

So, this arrived today from Awesomegti ...

Rev G diverter valve. Will hopefully get it fitted along with a 3D rear badge tomorrow.
Also ordered a pair of oem rubber mats for the front from the stealers.

Very impressed with Awesomegti, ordered yesterday afternoon and it arrived today! (And its Black Friday)!

Woah. I might have to pull my arch liner off lol.

I like your colour combination of the car and wheels. Pretty sure the wheels are a slight darker shade

The wheels do look ever so darker than standard! I'm looking to get my monzas resprayed at some point as I ruined one the other week! How on earth did you get insurance at 19?! I have the 1.4 TSI and I struggled even getting a quote and I'm 22, in the end I went with some random insurance company no one has ever heard of for about 1400- I suppose my 3 points didn't help all to much for speeding but still!

Some nice additions there! How difficult was it to fit the revision G div?

Cheers! Was fairly easy apart from i dropped a screw and took about 20 minutes to find it! Its a bit fiddly and i could only get 2 clicks out of my ratchet to undo two of the three allen screws but got there in  the end! After a couple of drives it is much much quicker and has a nice blow off noise when changing gear

Cheers :) I'll have to check mine every week then as I live on a farm! I should imagine the passenger side would be worse as it's always against the verge/ ditch!

Went to pick up my OEM floor mats today so thought I had better tackle the disgusting foot wells. Should've taken some before pictures but they look okay for now.

I also have her a quick snowfoam as I only washed it on Sunday... Only takes a day and it's filthy again!

Love the little mods so far mate - glad you're enjoying it. Can't imagine the insurance you're paying at 19....  :surprised:

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying it. Insurance is a bit of a killer but worth the extra work! Plenty of little mods coming to keep me busy (and poor)!
