The hardest decision!!!
« on: November 27, 2015, 12:18:31 am »
Here comes the bore  :ashamed:

I've had my ed30 now 2 3/4 years it's been faultless and by far the best motor I've had. I've had few cars that I will always love for different reasons, 306 gti6 with a few tweaks and a Honda Civic type r ep3 with was just standard but I knew it was time to sell them.
I live on my own with a mortgage plus loan and child maintenance for my little girl, I manage and have a flat mate which basically cover the cost of my loan for the car :-) but the house could do with a few things to improve it which costs money
The hard decision starts here...  someone knocked my wing mirror off last month and I've stored the car in my works garage till I can get proper parts, fold in mirrors puddle lights it turns expensive parts. In that time over a month I got used to driving the work van and thought it's time to sell while price is good 47k top spec and really good cond, bonnet chips is my only ocd n the car.
BUT... Driving it again after a month parked it just puts a smile on my face and and it's just faultless and never let me down, and it's had what ever it's needed.

Do I keep and manage or sell and get my house up to date with jobs!!!!

House first, car later. Don't skint yourself for the sake of a motor!

Dont rush into either,

If you sell up you are never going to find one that is as decent as your in a few years time if you ever wanted one. See if you can shift some money about to put into the house. How much are we talking?

I could remortgage but that doesn't help in the long run, I'm looking for a option to keep and like you say for the spec and low milage it would be a loss to sell and even to upgrade in time when I have the funds to a mk6 it would have to be just as good that I have now and cost me big money for a car that won't be any better.

Sell the house ! Live in the Eddy lol I couldn't imagine selling mine makes me smile too much. Have a look at your outgoings, phone bill, sky etc and reduce some things all being said if u sell and sort the house u will miss the Eddy and very hard to get a good spec low mileage for the right price

Thats a stunner.Hard decision there. I would try to all ways to keep hold of an example like that. It took me ages to find my gti. Mine has only 48k on and is candy white but isn't an ed30. Low milers are commanding strong money at the minute. Seen an 05 with only 37k on yesterday and the dealer was after  £9000.

Don't remortgage. Sell the car if you are struggling, it's an 8 year old Golf!

Well, the way things are - the house will go up in money anyway if you do nothing at all. The car will continue to depreciate to a point, until they hit the bottom and the cared for, low mileage, best specced will be even more difficult to find, so command a bit more money wise, but who knows when that may be!

I reckon - keep the car if you like it. Fit cheaper non folding used mirrors to get it looking ok, and get the love for it back - replacing it with something comparable in future will be harder than waiting a bit longer to sort the house, IMHO.

You have a house and car - I only have a car, so I obviously favour the car! As long as it isn't critical stuff on the house that needs doing, then I reckon keep going and get to the house in due time.

Sell the Eddy and sort the house.  Plenty of time in the future to get another nice car. Bricks and mortar every single time IMHO.

It's not just a golf to him though it's his pride and joy! Don't forget we're on a enthusiast website for the appreciation of these cars!
Everyone's circumstance is different so hard one to help you with but you'll regret selling this car.
You seem like an intelligent guy as you have a mortgage and chose a VERY good car so knuckle down and put the hours in and do the house work yourself to save a few £££.
A house is never finished, they'll always be something left to do.
