Golf gti mk5 or focus st 2
« on: November 27, 2015, 11:02:35 pm »
Hi.
I am fairly new on here. I have a mk5 gti in candy white.
I have always loved the gti's but also shared a love of the focus st. Has anybody owned both?
My gti is spot on and only got 48k on the clock but I often find myself looking at St's for sale.
What are your views?

2.5L 5 cylinder volvo engined petrol guzzler  :signLOL:
You'd have to pay top dollar for a pristine one as they can be sheds if not looked aftered or in the right hands. Many low milers but many owners on those too.

Front tyres are regulars as with all fwd motors with power. The st will cost a lot more to mod as it's a Ford

I did like the handling but didn't like the power delivery as it was sluggish so poop imho.

You see that's all I needed to know :happy2:
I have a thing for all the hot hatches from that period. I had the type ep3 and a megane 225. Had a subaru before the gti and hated it. The golf seems to be the best all rounder. Although the megane 225 was the fastest by far imo.

I had 2 of that shape ST from new and now I've got a GTI mk5 and think it's a lot better to drive.

Build quality on the ST is nowhere near the same as the GTi

Better asking this question on a neutral forum as you're bound to get a biased view on here.

Stage 1 Focus ST would be proper fun I imagine, a real torque monster! Addictive quattro-esque warble too, one of the nicest engine sounds in the world! More characterful chassis as well.

Is your GTI mapped?  I would find it difficult to be looking at ST2's with an rTech GTI
