RNS 510 Version Q - Battery Drain
« on: December 01, 2015, 12:54:12 pm »
Hi all,

Thinking of purchasing a rns510 version Q was wandering whether i would have battery drain issues fitting it into a 2007 edition 30?

The seller doesnt believe so, but i would just like to be sure.

Thanks,

You need to find out what version canbus gateway you have.

Find someone local who can do a vcds scan. There is a vcds register in the vagcom section on here

You will have to change the CCM I am 99% sure. Unless its a very late 2007 model.

You should have K canbus gateway in your car, so you would need to change it to avoid battery drain issue, unless like rich said if its very late 07,it would be L one, which is okay. I can supply a right precoded canbus gateway for you if needed.  :happy2:

Hi,

I've also got a 07 plate car (Edition 30), but the previous owner had a kenwood DNX 520VBT touch screen Sat Nav professionally fitted. Does this mean it is likely to have the newer CAN Bus? Or is that not how it works?
Assuming it does have the right CAN Bus can I then just buy an RNS 510 unit, plug it straight in and away I go?
many thanks,
Rob

Don't need to change gateway for aftermarket units, only for OEM. So if yours is not late 07 you will need to change it.

Pashka,
Thanks for the reply. I see from previous posts that you sell the parts I need. How much would a new can bus and a Bluetooth enabled rns510 cost? And is that all I would need?

Cheers,

Rob.

I've read that some aftermarket units also require a newer CAN to avoid battery drain. Shouldn't be many, though.

Was looking at this RNS 510 on eBay and in the description it says that they have solved the battery drain issue with a software update! Does this sounds realistic? Or a wild claim? They seem to be a professional seller with over 8000 items sold and 99.7% positive feedback, so inclined to believe them. Or am I being incredible naive!?

It's nothing new, that battery drain fix. It's just not 100% effective. Should work on most cars.

Can share what is the software update? Hoping I can do a quick DIY as I'm facing battery drain now  :scared:
