oil cap suction
« on: December 01, 2015, 02:01:58 pm »
My cars in for thermostat replacement at the moment.

They just spoke to me on the phone and said they had noticed when running simple diagnostics that if they try to remove the oil cap with the engine running there is suction pulling the cap on. They said this is some type of breather issue. I have replaced the PVC a while ago, this might be related somehow. Should there be no suction on the oil cap normally? they mentioned replacing some tyoe of valve near the rocker cover.

thoughts?

That is perfectly normal! Tell them to leave it be and preferably find a better garage in the future!

Mercedes/Chrysler/Damiler/Smart are a totally different brand/company to the VAG group. That's like some idiot around here saying he's a 'VW/BMW' specialist until I told him that just because they're german, doesn't mean they're all one company LOL

Removing the engine cap should lead to it trying to stall. Yours sounds 100% normal

Seriously look at finding a proper specialist

The beater is currently off the road due to a coolant leak after i replaced the thermostat. The wife did hint i should take it to a proper mechanic.  :fighting: But when i read threads like these i'm glad i decided to DIY it.
