Rear tires are 94y, front are 94w, Can I swap them?
« on: December 07, 2015, 02:16:38 pm »
Ive had some tires put on the front for MOT and they are utter, utter, utter garbage. Will I be ok to get some decent ones for the front and swap them over?

Y and W are speed ratings so unless your going to blast down the nurburg ring at 140mph you should be fine.

as previously mentioned, with the speed ratings, they should be more than adequate.

just for some reason on the standard monzas, there is a difference in speed ratings for the 17s and 18s.
you usually see this when you put in your reg in a tyre shop website such as halfords or kwik fit.
they say 17s should be W rated and 18s as Y rated as a minimum.

not had a chance to check the manual but ive always followed those criteria.

I think it's because of the size of rim they are going on as mine are 18 monza with tyres that are speed rating Y.
My TT mk1 had the same rating with 225 40 17 Y and then I replaced the wheels with 235 40 18 Y F1's.

don't leave the sh*t tyres on the rear, that's asking for oversteer.... And an accident

Its cool, I do about 4000 miles a month so I get to know the capabilities of the tires pretty quickly.

If your running "tires" rather than "tyres" you shouldn't be exceeding 55mph on the road
