The k03 turbo is a very strong turbo unit.

You can pick then up cheap on ebay and off members on here selling them after a k04 upgrade.

Is the car smoking from the exhaust?. where's the oil leaking from?.

Great news...  Definitely worth getting that second opinion

I had my Edition 30 serviced by a popular place and was told my gearbox was leaking badly and oil dripping at a fast rate...  First I had known as never seen any oil on my driveway.
They told me they can remove the gearbox and send it to a gearbox specialist for them to strip it back and find the issue. Said it would cost about £600 just to find the fault and possibly a £1000 to fix whatever the fault was...

They said 'so shall we go ahead and remove the gearbox?'

I obviously told them not to and was reminded how serious the leak was etc...  I stuck to my guns and collected the car...  I was happy with the work that had been done aside from the pushy gearbox crap over the phone

Took the car home and put a sheet of cardboard under the car...  Nothing dripped on it for 24 hours. I then had new tyres fitted at a tyre place and asked the mechanics next door to give their opinion on the gearbox and they said it was perfectly fine and no signs of a leak anywhere near it..
