Calcium Roof Droppings On Car

Has anyone ever parked their car in an underground basement with a pre-cast concrete roof?

Sometimes the roof can start to leak which causes small stalactites of limestone and calcium to grow... Eventually these can drip down onto the car below and if left untreated it will eat into the paintwork.

I just got a build up two nights ago on the window only and I think a weak acid such as vinegar might take it off.

Anybody experience this before and know what I can do to remove? I'll try the vinegar when I get home tonight!

Not had experience of this, sounds like a pain.

You'd like to think the council would be responsible but they'll probably come back the catch all phrase 'you park here at your own risk' regardless of the construction being defective or poor. For damage by other users or burglary I'd buy this as an explanation but not for a building fault/feature.

They'll also say 'nobody else has complained'. The reality of that statement is that the average person takes better care of their shoes than they might do their car. Most don't even wash them themselves anymore.

So I didn't have any vinegar in work, luckily I do have a lab so the weakest acid I could reach for was Sulphuric Acid 0.05M.

If anyone does have this trouble, I washed it off with this and a paper towel and then dried it all up.

Came off effortlessly. Although if you leave it longer it will eat into the paintwork as my brother experienced first hand!
