Is this an A revision unit ?, Going to 2660+ can cause more issues than just needing the new canbus

also you may as well do it yourself, because whoever does it will probably make you sign a disclaimer in case it goes wrong

Version B. The only issue I am aware of is the battery drain on MY 07 or earlier cars due to old canbus gateway. Mine is March 2007 reg so I presume MY06? (I've not checked this yet).

On mine I had to make that adaption change when I went to 1100 IIRC
I had to make the adaption change to get it show the secret menu and I'm only running f/w 900.

i mean issues with the RNS itself, like always starting in Germany, and speed warning being in KMH (to name a few), for these reasons i went back down to 1200

There is a later firmware 268x that solves the 'Regensburg Syndrome' but I quite like it.

To clarify a couple of things

Any firmware from 102X onwards so:

102X
090X
110X
120X
116X
266X
268X

Will require either the Adaption with VCDS to show hidden menu OR the firmware altering to enable it straight away.

Firmwares 090X and 268X are the only 2 firmwares to my Knowledge that require you to re-install maps and music.

With regards to Voice control. 266X firmware was actually a Beta and it is hit and miss for the Voice control to work.

268X firmware is the release version of the Firmware and has correct support for all MFSW, Voice Control (there is now a Voice option in the menu and the ability to save Voice Tags for address favourites) and also sorts out the Battery Drain issue, which anyone with a lower than K revision gateway experienced. Also it sorts out the starting in Germany issue (well it sometimes happens but only if say you have had the car parked in a garage and then it lasts about 2 secs)

There are a few other minor tweaks but none worth mentioning.

what did you do to fix the KMH ?

the starting in Germany is the main reason i went back, it would take nearly half my journey home to find out i was still in the UK !!!!

yeh, but im told its not meant to go on A units !!, oh and IT does wipe the settings on the RNS ?

EDIT

If your unit is after mounted (Retrofitting). And you used VCDS after install to configure the unit properly. = Don't upgrade if you don't have access to VCDS anymore.

If your unit is after mounted (Retrofitting). And you DID NOT USE VCDS to configure the unit, Then it should be safe to upgrade the unit. Sens no extra coding is going to be lost.

NOTE: Hard drive is still going to be formatted. (you lose all the saved music, map etc...)

NOTE: Language still needs to be changed from the setup menu (Default is German)

NOTE: Map disk needed to upload the map back on to the hard drive.

The speed in KMH is nothing to do with the Firmware.

I hav tried (unsuccessfully so far  :ashamed:) to fix this. But as soon as you modify a map disc to use either BMW maps or add speed cameras it changes the Speed Display to KMH.

I currently am using an untouched V6 maps disc (map data Q4 2008) and that works fine.

268X firmware is for all MFD3 and is the firmware that is put on by the factory for cars built week 52 2009 onwards iirc

hmm, the reason i havnt put it on is i have a soundpack and i know of two people loosing all sound after the upgrade  , plus i dont want to have to reinstall everything and change the settings on the RNS with VCDS, and other users have reported that they still get start in Germany issues and MP3 start issues !

Not heard about any sound issues  mine was fine. ( i don't have a soundpack though)

The only settings you will have to change is the test menu and thats only if you don't get a modded firmware. What other settings are you needing to change?

The only reason you have to put maps and music back on is because 268X is a factory firmware not a dealer upgrade.

As i said with the germany issue it happens rarely and when it does it goes in about 2 seconds. I had the same problem with 266X firmware that you did. Now when my car has been parked up ( i even had the battery off the other day to give it a bit of maintenance over night) and when i plugged it back in i started in germany and literally about 2 secs later i was back at my parents house.

The only MP3 issue i have heard is the song always starts from the beginning. I don't see this as a problem but now this only happens if playing from an SD card. If it's done from the HDD it starts where it left off.

Im guessing the soundpack issue is just coding, but its because when i installed my rns the sound worked even before i coded with VCDS, so not sure how there loosing sound altogether !, i might give it a go, but as the unit is now working fine im not sure i should mess with it again
