How To Replace The Boot Lid Badge
« on: November 18, 2015, 05:39:23 pm »
So I'm picking up a MK5 GTI tomorrow and it's got a few little bits that need doing. One of which is the boot lid handle/badge, I was just wondering how easy it is to do ect?

Cheers, Dan

If it's a later one with the 3D BW emblem then that just pops off. Open the handle and CARFULLY lever of with a trim tool etc. if your referring to the whole handle mech then it's a boot trim off job.....also not too bad just a bit of a PITA.

The trim has a fair few clips lol. Eddie fitted a reverse camera for me yesterday and had to remove all the trim.

I replaced the entire handle on mine. There's two screws in the pull grooves where you pull the boot down with. After that it's just a case of prying away the plastic trim. It can be quite stiff and can sound like your breaking it but not to worry. Start from top down and eventually you should be able to pull it off.

Then handle itself is held on by three screws. The top one was the worst to put back in when I replaced it with a MK6 badge. It's easy enough to do but as said previously by @MC71 just a bit of a PITA at times  :signLOL:

Easy fix is the mk6 "vw" badge which is a straight swap. Or go one better and fit a complete MK6 handle removing the tailgate
inner cover.
EDIT  I do have a mk5 handle sitting all alone in the shed which would look splendid under your Christmas tree

Is it all clean and as new, no chrome peeling away or anything like that?
