How long have you had the car?... has the idling sound changed over time?

The HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) makes them sound less than smooth most of the time.

When's the Cambelt service due?

Six months ago and just

only kidding mate. I shouldn't think it would be dangerous but more if it totally wears down then car will cause starting issues. other than that you'll have no problems of driving it even rattling it's socks off as most people have done or do.  :happy2:

As @r5gtt said, always worth checking the HPFP Follower on these motors bud:

It's not a hard job :)

Are you tuned?  Makes a big difference to the wear rate.

But the noise is most likely just normal for TFSI... check it none the less :)

A sound clip is always best but if this noise is more apparent when warm I would read this thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,100439.msg1004734.html#msg1004734

As I've found by the time the tappet show above is that noisey vehicle starting has become an issue.

No one has ever mentioned setting the tdc mark up in any of the posts I've read in order to replace the cam follower  :surprised:
