No one has ever mentioned setting the tdc mark up in any of the posts I've read 

Some people are over cautious but it depends on the installers ability!

I'm wondering how hard can this be being a technician  simply remove the pump take out the follower and refit with the new part and hey presto  can't go wrong 
Unbolt and refit job done??? even a novice can do it so why scare people off???.

It's important to remember a lot of the peps are not mechanically minded and are asking for the best advice to give them a step by step guide as their employment could be in any discipline and are doing this for pleasure not paid employment - they just want help!

doylebros, I totally understand people on here are from all walks but telling them to set the tdc is something that a professional would do when replacing a t belt kit  anything extra is frightening even for me

Whats TDC can remember doing that when i did my belt. 

These guides are without the banjo bolt. Which can be a pita if you don't have the correct triple square bit. If you have an axx take a look at this.

I struggled doing mine the first time around then i found a screwdriver bit set that had an m8 that fitted a 1/4 inch ratchet which made it simple.

Thanks dazza, luckily I have all the tools necessary for thr replacement and I have a BWA engine it that makes my life any easier?. I have a very light rattle so will check this out for sure.

I had a nightmare with my OEM ugly box replacement as something fell down the turbo inlet and I had no idea what it was  all I know is I was removing the silicon hose and something fell in!!! spent 30mintues with a torch and a hose clamp bent in the shape of a claw bit couldn't pick up what it was a looked black like rubber!!! luckily I had a pack of gum in my pocket so chewed three pieces and stuck it to the claw I made. OMGOSH I found a 25cm squared piece of bonnet trim stuck to the home made claw like wt*  don't know how it dropped off... thay would have screwed my turbo for sure...

I always worry about things like that especially when my kids are in and out of the garage. I put a spray paint lid over the turbo pipe.

I don't have the luxury of a garage. I just couldn't believe my worst nightmare came true and something fell in.  Glad I got it out else tuebo off job and I'd rather not be doing that. First mk5 and already pi**** off with the way it's designed lol

I do the same, always putting a new plastic glove over the Turbo pipe or anything that needs to stay clean, went a bit mad when doing the ABS pump, as I was sh!t scared of fouling the connector with brake fluid.



Worth noting to those who haven't done the Cam Follower before, don't open the drivers door it tries to prime the fuel pump!!

Just looking at that got me confused 

Honestly mate, I would have covered it if I thought I was in danger of losing something down there but wt* that bonnet felt came from out if no where as it's a simple take off pipe and refit pipe job. For anyone reading this, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CHEWING GUM TO HAND  as that saved my turbo for sure.

Note to you and everyone else is to remove the fuse for the fuel pump so it can't prime itself

Ha, yeah, good call which fuse is it btw?  Think my Cam Follower is in need of inspection soon.

I think it's fuse number 2 but double check with your user handbook
